RD411.com Answers Your Need for Spanish Handouts and Resources
Patient materials have never been easier to access and personalize and are now available in Spanish too!
Do you know that diabetes disproportionately affects Hispanics? To meet the needs of this population and to answer your requests for Spanish literature, the RD411.com Diabetes Center now offers FREE, easy-to-print educational materials for your Hispanic patients with diabetes.
Fast Facts
- Hispanics 20 years of age and older are more likely than non-Hispanic whites of the same age group to have diabetes (9.8% vs. 5.0%).
- After adjusting for population age differences, Mexican Americans, the largest Hispanic/Latino subgroup, are 1.7 times more likely to have diabetes than non-Hispanic whites.
- If prevalence of diabetes among Mexican Americans was applied to the total Hispanic/Latino population, approximately 2.5 million Hispanic/Latino Americans aged 20 or older would have diabetes.
- Hispanics with diabetes are more likely than non-Hispanic whites to suffer complications related to diabetes; many are undiagnosed.
- The prevalence of diabetes in Hispanic women is 2 to 4 times higher than non-Hispanic white women.
