The Gift of Time with Dozens of New Resources!
Message from Nancy Collins, PhD, RD, LD/N, FAPWCA
This month, I thought I would share three holiday gift ideas. I love to find just the right gift for the right person!
I am obsessed with this first product and I urge you to consider it. Can you tell I am serious? If you don’t routinely back up your computer, you are at risk for losing all of your files. At least a dozen RD411.com users have telephoned me after they lost everything and learned their lesson. Don’t let that happen to you. I have found the simplest back up system ever called the Clickfree Automatic Backup. You don’t need any computer knowledge because all you have to do is plug it into your USB port. Then sit back and watch it make a copy of all your documents, photos, slide sets, and other important files. RD411.com users can get a 15% discount on a 250 GB hard drive until December 31, 2009 by entering coupon code cfr331. Click here for more information.
Here is a great food idea without the calories. You will love the aroma of Philosophy’s Cinnamon Buns, an award-winning, ultra-rich three-in-one shampoo, shower gel, and bubble bath with the sweet, decadent scent of cinnamon buns. Words cannot describe the smell; you have to take a shower with this to fully understand. My second favorite flavor in this line is called Waffle Cone; there are dozens of flavors to choose from. Cinnamon Buns and Waffle Cone turn your shower into a calorie-free bakery. How great is that? For more information, visit www.qvc.com and search for item number A61756.
One more gift idea is the DVD of the movie Food, Inc. or King Corn. I loved both of these movies and readily admit they changed the way I look at food and the world. These movies are a must for every nutrition and health care professional. If you are looking for a good gift, this is it. You can purchase these documentaries at www.amazon.com or www.ebay.com.
If I wasn’t a dietitian I might be a personal shopper but in the interest of space, I will close now. I wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving surrounded by loved ones. I am enormously thankful that so many people are enjoying RD411.com. Keep reading for some new offers and dozens of new resources. As always, I love to hear your comments and feedback. Please email me at Nancy@RD411.com.

Do Your Patients Love Pasta? Get a Free Sample of Dreamfields Pasta
Do you often hear your patients say they love pasta, but avoid it because they’re watching their carbs or have diabetes? Hi, I'm Joan Williams, registered dietitian. I recommend telling your patients about Dreamfields Pasta. With only 5 grams of digestible carbs per one cup cooked serving, Dreamfields is the perfect pasta option. Plus, it has the same taste and texture of traditional pasta, so kids love it too. Encourage your patients to look for the black box in the pasta aisle and have them make the healthy switch to Dreamfields. RD411.com users can get a free sample kit so you can taste it and see for yourself. Just click here and a free kit will be shipped to you.

New Free CEU Course on the Omics of Nutrition
Genomics, metabolomics and related research—affectionately regarded as the “-omics” sciences, is a 30-year old metamorphosis that has emerged as the new face of nutrition and health. Nutrigenomics refers to the role of nutrients in gene expression. On the other hand, nutrigenetics takes a more systemic approach, describing an individual’s response to diet due to genetic variants or polymorphisms. Nutrition science is moving towards nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics to understand the relationship among dietary components, genetic polymorphism, and cellular metabolism. This FREE 1 CEU course will help you learn more. Click here to download the course and information on obtaining your credit.

RD411 Book Shelf
Each month Dr. Collins highlights one book she recommends.
This month’s recommended book is entitled A Comprehensive Guide to Obtaining Nutrition Order Writing Privileges by Heidi J. Silver, PhD, RD; Annalynn Skipper, PhD, RD, FADA; and Karren Moreland, RD, CNSD. The topic of order writing privileges is one that has been important to me for years. I have served as an expert witness for over 400 legal matters involving dietitians and often, part of the problem is a delay in acting upon nutrition recommendations. For example, it is quite common for a dietitian to recommend an increase in a tube feeding infusion rate. Often, several days pass before the new order is written, if it is ever written. If the patient loses weight in the interim, the question of harm arises. This type of delay may be avoided if dietitians were given order writing privileges. This guidebook aims to help dietitians across the nation evolve into practitioners who function more autonomously. By obtaining order writing privileges, dietitians become even more integral to health care delivery and that is something I support. I suggest you read this book so we can all be well prepared for an objective discussion with regulatory bodies, medical executive committees, and our peers. For more information on this book and purchasing information, click here.
