More Free Resources Are a Reason To Celebrate!

Message from Nancy Collins, PhD, RD, LD/N, FAPWCA

I wish everyone a very happy and healthy holiday season. As I reflect on the past year, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the people who make RD411.com possible.  We now have 30,000+ regular site visitors, over 2000 free resources with more added each month, dozens of content contributors, and very supportive corporate sponsors who make it all possible. This month we added 35 new resources from over a dozen contributors. Many thanks to Lisa Dalgleish, Nancy Aldrich, Beth LaCoste, Lori Willis, Julayne Ross, Diana Felten, Shawna Gornick-Ilagan, Sandra Moretz, Sheryl Lozicki, Christine Doolittle, Liz Friedrich, Elaine Koontz, and Stacia Helfand for their contributions to our ever growing library.

My heartfelt thanks goes out to all of you who have helped me realize my vision. I wanted to create an easily accessible, free library of resources to save you time. It was a pretty simple premise. As a long-term care dietitian, I knew I did not have the time to create handouts, write policies, make slides AND visit and document properly on all my patients. I know you don’t have that time either. RD411.com offers materials that you can download and/or customize so you don’t have to continually reinvent the wheel. Please utilize the resources and let me know what else you need. I have big plans for more features in 2010 so keep reading the newsletter and let me know what you would like to see. Again, I am sending my very best wishes this holiday season.  Please contact me at Nancy@RD411.com with any comments or ideas.

Do Your Patients Love Pasta? Get a Free Sample of Dreamfields Pasta

Do you often hear your patients say they love pasta, but avoid it because they’re watching their carbs or have diabetes? Hi, I'm Joan Williams, registered dietitian. I recommend telling your patients about Dreamfields Pasta. With only 5 grams of digestible carbs per one cup cooked serving, Dreamfields is the perfect pasta option. Plus, it has the same taste and texture of traditional pasta, so kids love it too.  Encourage your patients to look for the black box in the pasta aisle and have them make the healthy switch to Dreamfields.  RD411.com users can get a free sample kit so you can taste it and see for yourself. Just click here and a free kit will be shipped to you.

It is just fun to read everyone’s pages and get to know each other! Click here to get started

RD411 Book Shelf

Each month Dr. Collins highlights one book she recommends.

This month’s recommended book is entitled Making Weight Control Second Nature: Living Thin Naturally by Susan Burke March, MS, RD, LD/N, CDE. I have known Susan for many years so I am excited to share her new book with you. In this book, Susan debunks the myth that some people are simply "naturally thin" and can eat and lounge with abandon. Susan reveals that people who maintain a healthy weight aren't different from the average overweight American, but instead, they are "deliberately thin." She explains that weight control results from making everyday choices with intention, and that, by taking similar steps, readers can also make "living thin naturally" a part of their daily lifestyle. Through more than 20 different anecdotes from healthy weight maintainers, including registered dietitians, the book also uncovers the similar behaviors that make permanent weight control possible. For more information on Susan, visit her web site at www.susanburkemarch.com. To purchase her book, click here.
