RD411 is the Google of Dietetics and Nutrition!
Message from Nancy Collins, PhD, RD, LD/N, FAPWCA
A few days ago I received an email from a colleague expressing disbelief that everything on the site is free. “Why don’t you charge?” she asked. She continued to tell me how much money I could make if every user had to pay for the wonderful resources on the site. Her final query asked if I was going to begin charging now that the site is so popular and offers such a vast array of materials. She said many of her friends and colleagues were wondering about this so let me reassure you that I have no plans to begin charging or levying fees for using the site. Instead, I have been extremely selective in allowing a few business and industry partners to advertise on the site and reach out to RD411 users. I turn away more sponsors than I accept because if I cannot personally stand behind a product, I don’t allow it on the site. Please rest assured that RD411 is not going to become an advertising depot but in order to offset costs, I will continue to introduce you to new companies and products that I use and believe in. Please support the companies that support RD411 so I can continue to bring you more and more resources and tools. That way you can get back to the business of nutrition and doing what you do best!
As always, I love to hear your comments and feedback. Please email me at Nancy@RD411.com.

RD411 Book Shelf
Each month Dr. Collins will highlight one book she recommends.
This month I have been reading a book called In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. If you are in the business of nutrition, this is a must read. I am sure many dietitians will have strong reactions to the book because it brings up some issues that might be hard to swallow including the need for dietitians. Pollan defends food from the food industry on one side and nutritional science on the other. Pollan comments that both sides stand to gain much from widespread confusion about what to eat, a question that for most of human history people have been able to answer without expert help. Pollan proposes a new (and very old) answer to the question of what we should eat that comes down to seven simple but liberating words: Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. For more information on this thought provoking book, click here.
