46 New Resources Ready To Use!

Message from Nancy Collins, PhD, RD, LD/N, FAPWCA

The re-launch of RD411.com has created quite an exciting buzz! I have been busy answering questions for new users, talking to dietitians across the country and continuing to make tweaks and adjustments based on feedback. Since we have so many new users, I thought I would review some basic information on how to use the site.

Visit www.RD411.com and you will find over 1500 free resources covering a wide variety of nutrition and health topics. The materials are written and contributed by dietitians, nurses and other health care professionals. They are edited and peer reviewed and then posted to the site. Most materials are available in three formats: you may view it on the screen, download a printer friendly version, or download the content into your own word processing program. From there, you can modify the document to fit your specific needs or clientele. In addition to patient handouts, facility policies, in-services, and topic refreshers, the site offers downloadable slide sets, podcasts, videos, CE programs, a salary comparison tool, and other useful items to advance the profession. There is no charge for anything but I do appreciate if you give RD411.com credit and help me promote the site. Everything is there for your professional use to help streamline your work day. We have many new tools, so please take a look around.

As always, I love to hear your comments and feedback. Please email me at Nancy@RD411.com.

Create YOUR Own Page on RD411.com

Over 100 dietitians and health care professionals have already created their own promotional page on the site since we launched this feature a few weeks ago. If you would like to advertise your services, your products or your facility, you can create your page in only a few minutes. Your page can have your logo or photo, all your contact information, a link to your web site, and a description. There is no charge for this so go ahead and create a professional directory listing or just browse your colleagues’ listings and be inspired by what others are doing. It is just fun to read everyone’s pages and get to know each other! Click here to get started

RD411.com Forums Are a Great Service

Are you feeling a little shy about posting your question on RD411.com’s forum? You shouldn’t! We created our forum so that RD’s and health care professionals could ask questions, share information, and network. If you are working with a difficult patient, confused about where to go for information on a specific topic, or just need some input from your colleagues, use the forum to get answers. To access the forum, log onto the site and click on “Forum” on the right side of the home page under “Tools.” Take a few minutes to visit the forum every day—you never know what questions (or answers) you might find there

RD411.com Wants You!

Thanks to you, our readers, RD411.com is growing by leaps and bounds. Did you know that we have more than 1500 pieces posted? Yet despite our large library of materials, every day we get requests from our readers for something that isn’t on the site. If you have developed a form, educational material, slide set, in-service, policy, or anything else that dietitians or health care professionals would find useful, consider submitting it for posting. We will gladly add your name to the 100+ other professionals on our contributor list who have graciously shared materials with their colleagues. All materials are peer reviewed and edited (if necessary) before posting. Send your materials or your questions to Liz Friedrich, Associate Director, at liz@rd411.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

RD411 Book Shelf

Each month Dr. Collins highlights one book she recommends.

This month’s recommended book is entitled Go Green, Get Lean: Trim Your Waistline with the Ultimate Low-Carbon Footprint Diet (Rodale, 2009) by Kate Geagan, MS, RD. Kate has blended scientific facts with fresh food ideas to show readers how their food choices affect not only their health but the planet. When I went to school, the easiest way to pack a school lunch was the quick peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We had those only when my mom was pressed for time. Nowadays, we have outsourced even the simple PB&J sandwich and buy prepackaged diskette sandwiches that come individually wrapped and frozen in a cardboard box. How does this change affect the planet? Kate explores this topic in depth and looks at not only our relationship with food but with Mother Earth. For more information, visit www.gogreengetlean.com.
