January 2010 Vol. 5 No. 1

Start the New Year With New Educational Materials!

Message from Nancy Collins, PhD, RD, LD/N, FAPWCA

If your new year’s resolution was to be more productive, help is here! RD411.com offers a multitude of free, customizable resources covering all aspects of nutrition and healthcare. This month, there are dozens of new items for you to review and utilize. Many of them are borne out of requests I receive. I take all requests to heart and try to provide the things you need to do your job better and quicker. With budget cuts, we are all doing more on less but I am resolved to keep RD411.com free and easily accessible.

One of the most frequent questions I am asked is about how you can use the RD411.com materials. Most materials are available in three formats: you may view it on the screen, download a printer friendly version, or download the content into your own word processing program. From there, you can modify the document to fit your specific needs or clientele. In addition to patient handouts, facility policies, in-services, and topic refreshers, the site offers downloadable slide sets, podcasts, videos, CE programs, a salary comparison tool, and other useful items to advance the profession. There is no charge for anything but I do appreciate if you give RD411.com credit and help me promote the site. Everything is there for your professional use to help streamline your work day so please help yourself.
Please contact me at Nancy@RD411.com with any comments or new ideas.

Do Your Patients Love Pasta? Get a Free Sample of Dreamfields Pasta

Do you often hear your patients say they love pasta, but avoid it because they’re watching their carbs or have diabetes? Hi, I'm Joan Williams, registered dietitian. I recommend telling your patients about Dreamfields Pasta. With only 5 grams of digestible carbs per one cup cooked serving, Dreamfields is the perfect pasta option. Plus, it has the same taste and texture of traditional pasta, so kids love it too.  Encourage your patients to look for the black box in the pasta aisle and have them make the healthy switch to Dreamfields.  RD411.com users can get a free sample kit so you can taste it and see for yourself. Just click here and a free kit will be shipped to you.

RD411 Book Shelf

Each month Dr. Collins highlights one book she recommends.

This month’s recommended book is entitled 101 Optimal Life Foods by David Grotto, RD, LDN. In this book, Dave shares everyday foods that help remedy health issues large and small. From headaches to joint pain, acne to anxiety, chronically cold feet to depression, 101 Optimal Life Foods takes on thirty of the most common health issues–and shows you how to introduce healing fare to your diet through delicious, easy-to-prepare recipes. The book is organized into seven distinct health challenges and each section is complete with an individualized, three-meal-a-day menu plan. The book has a fun tone that is easy to read and enjoy. Rather telling you what foods are bad, this book is filled with ideas to get you on the path to better health. Great job, Dave! The book gave me dozens of new ideas and recipes to try.
